Gay Castaneda is entering her 12th year of coaching.  Gay began her coaching career at Whitney H.S. in Cerritos where she started as a junior varsity coach.  She then took over the program in 1991.  Gay has experienced many successes as a head coach in a short amount of time.  In here eight years at Whitney H.S. she has lead them to 6 C.I.F. appearances, 2 league championships and 1 state qualifier appearance.  Whitney won back to back league championships in 1997 and 1998.  Gay also inaugurated the boy’s volleyball program in 1999 at Whitney H.S.  Gay enjoyed much success at Whitney H.S., but decided to move to Gahr H.S., a larger school and under the tutelage of Sonny Okamoto.  Now with a teaching credential in hand Gay has been hired as a math teacher at Santa Fe H.S. where she will be coaching the girl’s and boy’s junior varsity teams.

 In 1995 Gay began her club coaching career with Cal Jrs volleyball club, where she coached at the 16 and under level for 4 years and is now currently coaching at the 14 and under level.  Gay’s teams have enjoyed much success at the Volleyball Festival in Davis and Junior Olympics.  Her 14 and under team were runners-up at the SCVA national qualifier in the 2000 season.  Gay has been a part of the training staff of the Long Beach State Volleyball camps since 1996.

Gay is currently the head volleyball coach at Santa Fe High School.  This is her first year as the head coach.

In here free time Gay enjoys watching sports on TV, playing volleyball, reading, traveling, and spoiling her niece and god children.  Gay will also continue her education and will be pursuing a master’s degree in either kinesiology or educational technology.  Gay hopes to pursue a coaching career at the collegiate level.
